Nevada Boxing

I been up and down the west coast in boxing clubs, even a couple on the east coast. A pervasive problem today is that real fighting as taken a firm backseat to boxing clubs becoming socially selective boy-toy hang out clubs. This is particularly a problem in universities who usually try to insulate themselves from the outside world and create their own bubble of social agreeableness. This atmosphere is why the U.S. and many countries for that matter are no longer producing real talent and boxing is dying. I thought maybe Nevada boxing club is a real exception to this as they seem to be producing real fighters. But the thing to appreciate is that people who are succeeding in USA boxing today are little more than yes-men. You walk in to Nevada boxing club and a baby-faced Justin Beiber wanna-be tells you that you need to be part of the university but does not clue you in as to how that actually goes. Maybe he just presumed because you got long hair and a beard that your a hobo (I was) and not someone who came here for a PhD in chemical physics (I did), then again maybe he was just perturbed that you interrupted his "everything is awesome" talk with his boy-band buddy. When you try to contact the coach just enjoy the silence......
